I recently read an article on The Onion about how doctors were touting the effectiveness of SSRIs even though they can cause a wide range of side effects. While I understand that SSRIs can be helpful to people who suffer from depression, I think it’s important to consider the potential side effects before taking them. I worry about the fact that doctors are so quick to prescribe SSRIs without taking into account the potential risks. I believe that it is important to weigh the pros and cons and to discuss all possible side effects with a doctor before making a decision about taking SSRIs.

At 43, I’ve seen the effects of SSRIs first-hand. I do believe that it is important for doctors to consider the potential risks before prescribing them. As the article states, side effects can range from mild to severe and it is crucial to understand all of those before taking them. It is true that SSRIs have been known to help many with depression, but it is equally important that one knows all of the potential risks and possible side effects prior to taking medication. It’s concerning that doctors might be too quick to prescribe without informing their patients of all possibilities beforehand.
