Checking in with myself on depression

Lately, I’ve found myself taking a moment to really check in with how I’m feeling. You know, it’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle of life that we forget to pause and reflect on our mental health. I’ve been doing a little self-assessment on my mood and overall mental state, and it’s been quite enlightening.

What stood out to me during this process is how important it is to be honest with myself. It’s tempting to brush feelings aside or convince myself that I’m “fine” when I might not be. I’ve realized that acknowledging when I’m feeling low doesn’t mean I’m weak; in fact, it’s a brave step towards understanding myself better.

I’ve been noticing some small signs – maybe feeling a bit more fatigued than usual or finding it hard to enjoy the things that once brought me joy. I’ve had to remind myself that it’s okay to feel this way and that it doesn’t define who I am. Instead of spiraling into negative thoughts, I’ve been trying to focus on what I can do to lift my spirits. Sometimes, it’s as simple as going for a walk or reaching out to a friend for a chat.

One thing that really helps is writing things down. Journaling gives me a way to express what I’m feeling without judgment. It’s almost like a conversation with myself, and it’s surprising how clarity can come from just getting thoughts out on paper.

I’d love to hear how you all approach these moments of self-reflection. Do you have any practices that help you when you’re feeling down? How do you check in with yourself? It’s such an important conversation to have, and I believe sharing our experiences can make us feel a little less alone in this journey.
