AHS addiction has made my anxiety and mood much harder to manage. I used to think it helped me shut my brain off, but lately it feels like I’m stuck reacting to the next craving, the next comedown, or whatever mood I wake up in. Some days I’m restless and on edge, and other days I feel completely flat.

I remember sitting in my car after getting AHS, telling myself I’d only use a little so I could calm down. Instead, I spent the whole evening checking how much I had left and feeling guilty about it. That was when I realized it wasn’t really helping my anxiety anymore.

Has anyone found a way to handle the mood swings and anxiety while trying to cut back or stop?

That moment in the car sounds like a real turning point. The constant checking and guilt can keep your anxiety wound up even before the comedown hits.

When I was cutting back, I tried not to handle the whole problem at once. I kept meals, water, and sleep as steady as possible, and wrote down cravings instead of acting on them immediately. Telling someone I trusted also helped break the cycle of keeping it all in my head.

If the mood swings get severe, or you feel unsafe, it’s worth contacting a doctor or addiction service. Withdrawal and anxiety can be rough, and you don’t have to manage them alone.

The part about writing cravings down instead of acting immediately makes sense to me. Even a short delay can create enough space to notice whether I’m actually anxious or just responding automatically.

Keeping meals and sleep steady sounds simple, but those are usually the first things I let slide when my mood is all over the place. Did you use a specific craving log, or just jot down what you were feeling and how long it lasted?

The part about keeping meals, water, and sleep steady seems easy to overlook, but I’ve noticed missing even one of those can make a craving feel way more urgent. I’m trying to treat those basics like damage control instead of waiting until I’m already spiraling.

Writing the craving down also helps me see the pattern later. Usually there’s a trigger before it, like being alone, not sleeping, or getting stuck in my head. Telling someone I trust is harder, but keeping it secret definitely gives it more power.
